Situated at the fo ot of the Brecon
Beacons, Grawen is a fami ly-run
site just two miles from the villa ge
where there are shops, pubs,
takeaways andmore. A 10-minute
drive awayis the UK’s first full-scale
mountain bike park in the south
Wales valleys, called BikePark Wales

On offer are a variety of trails
frombeginner topro, thro ugh and
aroundGethin Woods near Merthyr
Tydfil. Green trails are great as an

introducti on tomountain bik ing
and perf ect fornovices, while the
red advanced trails require more
technicalknowledg e andability. The
top level pro trails are forelite riders
only, featuringsteep downhill riding,
jumpsand obstacles.
The site at Grawen has electric
hook-ups,toilets, showers anda
bus stop 400yards away. Away from
cyclin g you cantake a ri de on the
Brecon Mountain Rail way or crui se
the canal from Brecon town centre.

Running 19 miles from Ayr to Irvine,
the Ayrshi re Coast Cycleway takes in
long stretches of coastline between
the Scottish towns of Irvine, Troon,
Prestwick and Ayr, and hasspectacular
views across to the Isle of Arran. The
route also passes thro ugh two wildlife
reserves. It’s possible to organis e
shorter cycling trips by using the
regular local train services.
You canpick up the cycle path close
to Prestwick Holiday Park. If you cycle
left from the site entrance al ong the
cycle path adjacent tothe A79you
can be back on off-road terrain af ter
half- a-mile. The campsite has 17 fully
serviced pitches. Facilities include
toilets, showers, a shop, laundry an d
bar. The site is 500 yards fr om the
beach andone mile from Prestwick.

The Tissington Trail is a traffic-
free, family-friendly walking and
cyclin g trail running for 13miles
from Parsley Hay in the north of
the Peak District NationalPark
down to Ashbourne.At Parsley Hay
there is parking, a café and acycle
hire centre.
For a site with easy access to
Parsley Hay there is Lathkill Dale.
Set 2½miles fr om the visitor
centre the ca mpsite canaccept
ca mpervans upto 6m (20ft)in
length. There areelectric hook-
ups, toilets, showers and WiFi is
available. There’s a pub serving
food just five minutes’ wa lk away.
