foot of eachsingle bed.
Unlike many wardrobesthat are
thus loca ted, these havea good
hanging drop(1.05m) as they extend
below the livin g area into the double
floor ar ea. They are illuminated,
as well as h aving dualaccess (a
conventionaldoor atthe front and
a hinged lid above) and the offside
wardrobe has both a hanging rail and
a removable shelf.
There a re top l ockers ar ound three
sides of the bedroom, too, andwhile
I would usually here bemoan the
inab ility to sit up in bed, Carthago
has also addressed that issue. Each
bed has a tip-up sectionto its sprung
slatted base atthe head, so you ca n
lounge here with your cuppa and iPad
in comfort.
The bedsthemselves are of unequal
leng ths but each is over 6ftand the
nearside mattress is particular ly

generous. The steps up tothe beds

are the only ones in the living area ;

otherwise it’s a flat floor fr om

bedroom to cab. And, once I wa s

snuggled un der the duvet, I slept like

a baby on the not-too-soft, not -too-

hard, se ven-zone coldfoam mattress.

With heater ducting runningright

aroundboth bed s, and the Combi

6kW setat a modest butcomfortable

setting, you’re ensured a cosy night,

even when it’s grim outside (and it

really was).

Typically, there’s an infill cushion

between the bedsto increa se wriggle

room at shoulder level, but the clever

bit is the waythis extends (from

1.13m long to 1.58m) if you wantmore

of a double(king-sized) bed feeling.

Unlike most similar layouts, where

the extension covers the steps anda

ladder comes into play, here the steps

themselves slide forward toremain

well-placed. Neat.

Of course,the 141LE is also a full

four-berth, with a dr op-down double

in the cabproviding the extra bert hs.

This i s manually operated(and quite

heavy to raise back up), butan electric

versionis optional, as is a se lection of

extra cupboards to replace the bed.

If you need the additional

accommodation, havingreclin er

knobs on both sides of the cab seats

easesthe sole job before dropping

the bed to a height that requires no

ladder – just hop up via the jump

seat.It’s a large and comfortable bed

with p rivacy curtains and plenty of

headroom (up to 820mm), butlighting

only on the nearside and no roof vent.
