Car: 1984 Mayfair 998 Auto
Location: EastbourneQNeil’s 1984 Mini is called
Dorris. He found her on eBay
back in November 2016 and she
was in a sorry state with no
windows, inner or outer sills or
boot floor and a rusted out
driver’s floor pan. She needed
two new rear quarters and a
driver’s corner scuttle. All the
work didn’t put Neil off though.
He has since converted it to a
manual box.
Being 6 foot 7, he’s had to
source different seats (he went
for BMW MINI seats) and has
remounted them. Neil has
had the head off the Mayfair,
and ground and seated the
valves too. He has sourced all
of the missing pieces himself
and did the full restoration and
paint job with a mate over the
course of 2 and a half years.
He also has a Clubman Estate
that he’s about to start
restoring too!FREAK OUT!!
Name: Caroline Davis
Car: 1986 Mini
Location: PortsmouthQ Caroline and husband Wayne carried out a full nut
and bolt resto on Caroline’s ’86 which they managed
to complete over 15 months of weekends. It’s a 998cc
with a +40 rebore and piston and a fast road cam and
cherry bomb to add a bit of pep. The interior has been
converted back to earlier styling. The car was a 50th
birthday present from Wayne and initially bore a 69
decal to mark Caroline’s birth year. Caroline has
always loved Minis but this is her first one and Wayne
put his heart and soul into making it perfect for her.
The resto has turned the pair of them into self-
confessed Mini freaks!Dorris has come a
long way since Neil
found her on eBay.Door numbers have
now given way to
