plenty to laugh about.

right by us so I was able to borrow his
tools again and a jubilee clip saving
me a mile walk back to my van.
Practice was slightly daunting;
you’re supposed to walk the course to
“learn” it, so I did just that. Well... I
wouldn’t say I learnt it - you can pick
up more by looking at other drivers’
in-car footage. First run was thrilling
if slightly messy and due to over-
running on time we didn’t get a
second practice so all to play for on
the Sunday.
The second run was an
improvement on the first but I was
three seconds off the leader in the
class. What I did learn at this point
was that the 1960’s design CR65
historic tyres I normally use in
circuit racing are actually quite good
- Phil Anning was second quickest
in his Elf using them.
On to the third run – pressure
mounting. I just checked the carbs
weren’t leaking again by standing by
the driver’s door, reaching in to start
it and lifting the bonnet gently to see
if there was a leak. No. Off I go – get
up to speed – probably about 60
and... The bonnet f lies off. My
quick-release bonnet hinges meant it
f lew off out of the way and didn’t
wrap itself round the screen and it
didn’t hold me up. I knocked another
second off my time. Amazing day
and event.
Oh and aside from the racing...
This month the scrap man appeared
with a Class 1 grasstrack car which I
seem to have acquired. Scruffy!
A new racecar on the
fleet via the scrapman...
Start them young - Tim's granddaughter
tries the racer on for size.
Impressive display of
racers at Chateau Impney.
“I had used 9 litres of fuel to do
just over a mile...”
