“The interior’s been redone with recovered
seats and the wooden dash, and I’ve added the
spotlamps and 15 inch four-spokes. It’s so much
fun to drive and is now a veteran of the Lakes and
Highland Tours — being part of Scottish Old Skool
has been great for these. If there’s an event or run
coming up, and there’s work to do, then it’s all
hands on deck to make sure the cars are ready.”

Mark’s Sapphire Cosworth
Mark’s 1990 Saph has the honour of being one of
the newest cars in the SOS fleet, but is a very
welcome part of the club, and he’s owned the
left-hand-drive car for just over a year.
“I bought it from a guy in Glasgow who
imported it, but before that I believe it belonged to
a doctor in France. It’s never been welded and was

completely original when I bought it — it’s one of
the first 4x4s and is in Moonstone Blue.
“I couldn’t really leave it standard — that’s not
what I’m into. I’ve known Garry for years and all the
work was done by me and him either at his
workshop or in my home garage. I’ve added the
Comps, Koni suspension, green injectors and a
3-bar MAP sensor, a Group A filter and MSD chip,
plus a full Magnex system, so it’s pretty rapid now.”
“I own an XR3i as well, but I’ve always wanted
something a bit quicker, and the Cosworth is
certainly that. I’ve got no plans to sell it, and the car
is pretty much how I want it at the moment, though
I may take it down to MSD at some point for a new
engine bay loom — the original one looks OK and
hasn’t been hacked about with too much, but it is
almost 30 years’ old.”

“IF THERE’S A SHOW OR RUN COMING UP,

THEN IT’S ALL HANDS ON DECK TO MAKE

SURE THE CARS ARE READY TO GO”

Left-hand-drive Saph once belonged to a French
doctor. Oversize teddy confuses other road users...

After owning a 1300E as a lad, Paul’s finally got
another Mk1 Escort — though with ST170 power.
