They’re relatively new to the scene but

hen and why was the group formed?
We’re quite a new club — August 2018 was
when we started. Why? Simple really, there were
lots of small groups around the south London area
doing there own thing, and I thought, why don’t we
all do stuff together? I created a group on Facebook
and for the first month we had about 25 members,
then word got out and it grew rapidly — we now
have 1100 members, with around 50 cars turning
up to the meets and runs we organise.

Is it open to all classic Fords?
Yes, and not just Fords — anything that’s retro or
classic. We’re not precious, so while classic Fords
make up the majority of the cars we see at the
meets, there are Mk1 Golfs and even Starlets that
regularly turn up, too.

What does the group offer to new members?
We’re not a traditional club — it’s all about the
social enjoyment of getting out and about in our
cars. It’s a great way to meet up with some great
people, and everyone’s very friendly — you’ll be
made to feel very welcome.

Can you describe a typical member?
A typical member? Someone going through a

midlife crisis and wanting to relive their youth! No,
seriously, it’s anyone enthusiastic about the cars,
and we have a fair few younger members, too
— there’s one young lad, Jonas who attends every
event in his Mk2 Fiesta. He turns up early, is always
one of the last to leave and he loves it. It’s great.

Do you host your own shows or meets?
We meet on the first Wednesday of every month
at the 7Hotel American Diner in Sevenoaks — the
next one is on August 7. It’s their classic car meet
but we tend to take over it. We’ve also held the
odd event at the Ace Cafe.

What about road runs?
Yes, almost every weekend! Usually breakfast
runs from Sutton to Newlands Corner near
Guildford, then sometimes heading onto Ryka’s
Cafe at Boxhill for a spot of lunch.

What other shows does the group have a
presence at?
During the show season we have club stands at
events most weekends — most recently Bromley
Pageant. We’ve got 78 cars booked into the Kent’s
All-Ford Show in Aylesford, and they’ve asked us to
stagger our arrival so as not to block the entrance!

Do you have any funny stories about
the group?
On our way back from the Sporting Escort
Owners’ Club event at Blackbushe Airport
recently one of our members broke down on the
motorway. There was no hard shoulder, so we all
stopped to make sure he was safe. The police
turned up and once we got the car going, stopped
the traffic then gave us an escort off the
motorway — all 30 of us!

What are the group’s goals for the future?
We’re about to start selling t-shirts and hoodies
through the Facebook group, and we’re also
setting up a website as a sideline where we’ll be
selling performance parts and taking on engine
builds. We’re working with one of our members
on this — Wayne Wigger of WPE.
