here’s a mantra that’s been shared by
social commentators and other smug
people for generations: ‘expect the
unexpected’. Which is a fundamentally silly
thing to say, really; it creates a logical paradox, it
demands that you do something that’s literally
impossible. Nevertheless, with all that being
said, it’s actually not a bad piece of advice to
proffer in the case of this particular Granada.
You see, at fi rst glance it may appear to be a
sympathetically restored and largely original
example, perhaps with the odd tweak and
upgrade here and there... but all bets are off


when its owner, Craig Osborne, lifts the bonnet.
We’d lay down decent money that very few
readers would have guessed what engine’s
lurking in that clean-as-a-whistle bay.
Given the physical nature of print media,
however, coupled with the way your eyeballs are
dictated by natural curiosity, we’ll assume that
you’ve already looked at the engine shots and
correctly deduced that it’s an i4 motor, of the
type you’d fi nd in a late-model RS2000 or
Galaxy. And that’s pretty unexpected, is it not?
We’ve not seen this swap carried out before;
