polished every week,” he explains, “whether it
needs it or not! Autoglym were very good to me
when I was in their championship, so I always
come back to using their products.” There’s no
arguing with the trophy cabinet: the Deluxe has
won over 650 concours awards to date.Waxing lyrical
It takes extended commitment to build that
kind of trophy cabinet — and the Deluxe has
been on the show circuit ever since it returned
to the road. “I started out just wanting to go
to shows with my brother and his Lotus
Cortina,” says Jim, “and then the cleaning got
on top of us...” Three Mk1 Cortina Owners’Club championships, the 2002 Scottish
concours championship and entry in eight
Autoglym Classic Concours Grand Finals are
just some of the victories the Cortina has
scored over the years.
More recently, the two-door saloon has also
wowed the crowds at Waxstock, a diverse and
popular detailing event that caters for everything
from slammed hatchbacks to pristine classics.
Jim and the Cortina finished third overall in the
event’s first year, climbing to second in 2013
and winning the Detailing World Showdown in- A designated display slot for the 2015
event was their reward.
Were that not enough, their success still
