Car: Mk3 Cortina
“I thought I’d send you a couple of
pictures now that my Mk3 Cortina is
finished,” says Mervyn. “I bought
the car in November 2002 and ran it
till late 2006 when I took it off the
road to repair the driver’s side rear
suspension mounting — plus a whole
lot more.”
“All the bodywork was done by
myself on the drive at the front of our
house. The V6 engine rebuild I
entrusted to JW Developments,
converting the heads to lead-free
spec, rebuilding the block with a
JW270 cam, matched the inlet
manifold to the heads, fitting a steel
timing gear and a new clutch. I have
also rebuilt the front crossmember
with poly bushes throughout, and
fitted Capri 2.8 vented discs with
Princess four-pot callipers. The rear
axle I changed to an Atlas which I
totally rebuilt with new bearings and
shims in the diff which I changed to
the Capri’s 3.09:1 ratio. I also did a
rear disc conversion using Sierra front
discs and rear callipers.
“Along the way I changed it from
auto to manual so I could use the
four-speed Type 5 ’box, which sits on
an automatic crossmember and the
engine sits on a pair of South African
Cortina engine mounts.
“The paint is 2-pack Vauxhall
Power Red mainly because is a bit
deeper red than Sunset Red. Lastly
the wheels are three-piece, 7x15
Image BRS split-rims.”

Car: Mk2 Escort
“Here’s my Mk2 Escort, which is turning into an ongoing
project,” says Graham. “I was hoping to have the car
ready for the Classic Ford Show in June, but obviously
that didn’t happen!”
“It’s going to be running an ST170 engine on throttle
bodies, plus a five-speed, four-pot brakes and Revolution
four-spokes — and I’ve had some help with the car from
KD Kustoms UK, who restored the Mk2 Granada you
featured in the August issue.”
