Reader’s restoration: Whether you love or hate the idea of modifying


a genuine Series One RS Turbo, you can’t deny that R&M Classic Cars


do make a great job of it...

ou’ll recall our May 2019 issue contained a
feature on a Series One that its restorer had
the courage to paint grey rather than the
standard factory white. Some said it was sacrilege,
others that it looked great. Members of the first
group might want to look away now... The
builders of that grey RS Turbo were Rod Alderson
(right) and Mick Barker from R&M Classic Cars,
and that car was a subtle mixture of stock original
and a few upgrades they called the Grey Edition.
The Escort you’re looking at here is the sequel
— their RS Turbo Black Edition.
“We got it from down south,” says Rod of this

with no sunroof, central locking or electric
