100% Biker – August 2019

(ff) #1

T

he workshop and outside area had been
arranged for this year’s event with all
the trikes and bikes moved outside to
enable people to get a better look at them.
Meanwhile, inside the workshop, the Trike
Design team had set up their cake stall and, on the
other side of the shop, was a new trike with candy
over heavy flake paint (more on this soon!). A flamed
Harley Panhead chop was sitting up on the ramps,
while Matt’s Honda CB750 (seen in 100% Biker #242)
was also there to have a front brake added and a nice
new set of handlebars added.
Outside the Travelling Teapot was waiting for the
hordes to turn up, while uPVC next door had opened
up with a bar and stage for the bands. It was not long
before I was glad that I had got there early as the
place started to fill up with the Chopper Club turning
up en masse; I liked the El Borracho bike last year
and it was still looking as good as it did when it was
featured in 100% Biker #202. Over the morning other
nice bikes and trikes turned up, from standards to
chops and even an alloy tanked Triumph café racer

and it wasn’t long before the parking got tight.
Sick Note Steve was again supporting the Open
Day playing his Brains beer tray guitar, Steve always
goes down well at events and he did a great set. He
was followed by another regular band, Smokestack
Lightning while, the third band for the day was Blue
Evolution, all of whom played good sets.
Between all of this going on, I met quite a few friends
and also had a chance to look around the bikes and
see what else had turned up. I found the same Harley
bobber that I had wanted to take home from the Rorkes
Drift rally and it wasn’t long before I bumped into Steve
the owner. This bike collected lots of good comments
made about it while I was there and it looks like I’m not
the only one who would have gladly owned it!
After a good few hours the bikes started to leave, so
I thought it was a good time to go. I said my goodbyes
and, as I was walking out, I was handed a bag of
fresh Welsh cakes (pity you don’t like currants, Blue)
When I got home a hour later they were still warm so
my Mrs and me sat down and ate them with a cup of
coffee. Now that’s a proper day out.

This is the second year that I’ve attended Trike Design’s Open Day

and I enjoyed it so much last year that I was one of the first to

arrive this time around!
