100% Biker – August 2019

(ff) #1

Oakland tried to take a selfie with it. The look on the bird’s
face was priceless and I ticked “Find a worried owl” off my
bucket list. (Yes, I have an odd bucket list.) I don’t know why
it was worried because the gentleman was fascinated by it and
I suspect he ticked something off his bucket list, too.
That evening Hollowpoint played a great set of ’80s Rock
and then Led Into Zeppelin showed us why they are a
celebrated tribute act amongst Zep aficionados with a superb
hour of Led Zeppelin classics. The headline act, Midnite
Johnny from Miami, Florida, produced cracking set of rhythm
and blues.
Saturday dawned and as it was my wedding anniversary
I had to find a present for the wife. It didn’t take long as we
found the perfect item we knew she would love. My missus
was supposed to be at the event with us, but she hasn’t been
too well of late and her days of being happy to sleep in a tent
are behind her. It was the first time in seventeen years that
we’d been apart on our wedding anniversary.
There is a perception that playing music to the great

unwashed is a doddle, but try doing it whilst chasing bands,
organising the logistics of getting gear on and off stage and
generally supervising and looking after the backstage area.
You don’t get much time to appreciate what is going on
around the rest of the venue. Our Sean was a big help as he
gave me some time to take some photos and have time away
from the stage. When I couldn’t escape, he was happy to go get
the all-important mug of tea that keeps me going these days.
The Slow Bike Race took place on Saturday afternoon.
Riding your bike slowly is another thing that sounds easy, but
actually doing it was beyond most of the competitors! The clear
winner was a lass called Savage who showed the lads how it’s
done on her Honda CB1000. Savage was a very worthy winner
with great balance and a relaxed smooth ride.
The bike show was also held on Saturday—under cover just
in case the weather hadn’t been as kind to us as it was—and
there were some rather tasty bikes and trikes on show, although,
of course, I forgot to write the winners down. To round off the
awards ceremonies the Red Devils MC drew the winning ticket
