among modelers to solvent clear
coats. PFG’s popularity comes from
its self-leveling properties and that
it can be brushed on without
leaving brush marks. Objectors say
it yellows with time or isn’t as hard
as hobby or automotive clear coats
and doesn’t stand up to much
handling. Proponents say yellowing
can be avoided by airbrushing
several thin coats — thinner than
brushing it on. They also discount
handling as an issue. That said, I
personally prefer automotive or
hobby clears.
But back to your question: Yes,
you can apply decals over PFG.
Typically, decals would be applied
prior to adding the clear coat, but
there’s no problem in applying
decals later over any type of gloss
clear. In your case, be sure to apply
a clear top coat over the decals to
hide the edge of the decal film and
blend them into the car’s finish.

This issue’s cleverly
simple tip effectively
squares off a piece of
small material, in this
case^1 ⁄ 32 -inch brass
stock. Submitted by C.J.
Mahovic, his unique
method also prevents
the material from kink-
ing while it’s filed. C.J.
says:

“While replacing a broken vent window post, I had to make a precise length
of^1 ⁄ 32 -inch square brass with squared ends. I taped the brass stock against the
lip of a single-edge razor blade and used a second blade for more stability. I
filed along the edges of the blade to get perfectly squared ends.”

That’s all there is to it! Thanks, C.J. Before using this techniques, tape over
the business ends of the razor blades to prevent any cuts that might result if
your file slips. (Don’t ask how I know that.)
