Scale Auto – October 2019

SCALE AUTO TAILGATE SPECIAL

Wheels mean a lot to the appearance of
any vehicle. For this truck, I wanted
American Racing Salt Flat rims. I took
the rims from a Revell Snap-Tite ’57
Chevy and machined away the heavy
rib around the perimeter on my
Sherline lathe; I could have just as
easily used a motor tool or side cutters
and a file to accomplish the task.

No stranger to customizing his
models, Mark Jones went all out
on his 1960 Chevy pickup, with
both aftermarket parts and
details he made himself.

Round 2’s latest release of the 1/25 scale AMT ’60 Chevy
pickup with go-kart looks nice in the box. The parts are clean
and well detailed. But I wanted more than a sharp-looking
stock pickup. I wanted a mildly customized speed-shop
machine, and that was going to take a bit of work. As it turns
out, the kit more than looked nice — it built like a dream.
