Removing the rib made using wider
tires easier. I made a room-temperature
vulcanizing-silicone mold with the
modified rims and cast resin copies. I
found a set of soft Michelin tires from a
Tamiya kit in my spare parts box that
fit the modified wheels, 1.
To fit the oversized rims properly
into the tires and create the offset, I


had to make a new lip for the rims. To
do this, I mocked-up the suspension
and test-fit the new wheels and tires. I
drilled the mounting bosses on the
rims with a ⅛-inch bit to fit over the
spindles and stubs. To adjust for offset
on the front wheels, I shaved .075
inches off the backside of the rims and
they aligned perfectly.

The rear wheels didn’t need any
additional work, but I wanted them to
look deeper. I shortened each axle stub
an ⅛ inch and removed the axle
flanges, 2.
To lower the ride height, I cut the
A-arms for the front suspension at the
control arm bushings with a fine-
toothed razor saw and scored the roots
