and German gray (XF-63) dirtied up
things, 13.
After basic cleanup and assembly,
the body was ready for one of the two
main colors. I airbrushed the hood,
inner walls of the bed, and upper
portions of the body Tamiya semi-gloss
black (X-18) cut with lacquer thinner
to hasten drying, 14.
Inside, the steering wheel was
damaged. Though reparable, I took
another route and found a similar
wheel to what I had on my real C10. I
shaved the door handles and replaced
them with Model Car Garage photo-
etched metal parts. The speedometer
came from a decal in my spares. I
designed the Southwestern blanket and
laser printed a decal for it, 15.
I cut a flame design from Oramask
stencil film for the hood graphic,
applied it, airbrushed a light coat of
Tamiya brilliant blue (TS-44), and
removed the mask a couple of minutes
after painting, 16.
A hand-painted
base coat of thinned
Testors wood
enamel (No. 1141)
went on the bed
floor, followed by
strips of fine wood-
grain decals from
Warbird Decals cut
to match the plankwidth. Tamiya Mark Fit (No. 87102)
helped seat the decals and revealed the
raised wood-grain details, 17.
I detailed the metal ribs with
Warbird Decals chrome stripes. Decal
solvent and a hair dryer helped them
conform. A bit too bright, I toned them
down with a wash of Alclad II polished
aluminum, 18.
I masked the black and airbrushed
German gray onto the lower sections of
the body. I painted the roof brilliant
blue straight from the spray can.
NATO black (XF-65) served for the
weather stripping around the windows,
and the bright trim is Model Master
chrome silver (No. 1790). I designed,
printed, and applied custom decals.
When dry, I airbrushed a light coat of
Testors Dullcote to unify the finish. A
coat of Scale MotorSports Faux Fabrix
gave the inside of the tailgate a bed
