Who isn’t a sucker for the classic Gulf blue-and-orange racing
livery? I know we are! Bob Maderich II built this 1/43 scale
Mirage GT40 from Record as part of his local club’s “white
elephant” model exchange, and it’s a winner in our book.

Howard Quednau showed off his 1/16 scale VW Karmann Ghia from
Revell Germany. He built the model straight from the box and finished
it in Tamiya brilliant orange and racing white. “I found this in a hobby
shop window on a trip to Berlin, Germany, and it just said, ‘Take me
home!” We’re glad you did, Howard.

What would the kid of a hot rod and a rat rod look like? Tom Hoffman
shows us with his ’32 Ford five-window coupe. He chopped, channeled,
and lowered the chassis, added custom seats and exhaust, and gave it
military colors with DupliColor paints and decals from his spares.

Psycotic Reaction was a theme build by Jim Kampmann that began as
Revell’s Anglia Gasser. Jim modified the hood, scratchbuilt the front
suspension, and provided turned-aluminum velocity stacks. The color is
a custom mix of Tamiya lacquers.

This 1/18 scale Hubley 1929 Duesenberg LaGrande has special meaning
to builder Scott Glatstein. He says: “My grandfather gave me an
original Hubley Duesenberg in 1968. When I returned to the hobby, I
sough out that same kit.” He finished his second LaGrande with photo-
etched metal hood screens, a flocked carpet, and in-dash gauges.
