BBC2’s 7pm slot is often populated
by repeats, sometimes recruited
from daytime, such as BBC1’s The
Repair Shop – a stalwart since

  1. Since July in this 7pm slot,
its re-runs have done rather well.
    Meanwhile, Channel 4 was more
than just having a fag at 10pm on
    Tuesday, while on Monday, BBC2
    sent a shudder through anyone
    considering crossing a bridge.
    BBC2’s When Bridges
    Collapse: The Genoa Disaster
drew 1.5 million/9% on Monday at
9pm, more than Channel 5’s The
    Secret World Of Your Rubbish
    (1 million/6%; 42,000 +1) and
    Channel 4’s The Great Train
    Robbery: The Hidden Tapes
    (700,000/5%; 134,000 +1).
    Channel 4’s three-part series
    Kathy Burke’s All Woman opened
    with 800,000/7% (130,000 +1) on
    Tuesday at 10pm, more than
    BBC2’s Mock The Week repeat
    (800,000/8%) opposite. All
    Woman attracted 366,000/12%
    ABC1 women – significantly more
    than the year-to-date slot average
    (212,000/6%).
    C4’s three-part documentary
series Jade: The Reality Star Who
    Changed Britain drew 1 million/
    6% (170,000 +1) at 9pm on Wednes-
day – 194,000 and two share points
fewer than last week’s launch. It
still beat BBC2’s new Murder Case
    (1.1 million/ 6%) and C5’s When
    Cruises Go Horribly Wrong And
    Other Travel Nightmares repeat
    (900,000/6%; 93,00+1).
    The best of BBC2’s weekly
7pm strip of The Repair Shop was
    Tuesday’s episode (2 million/13%).
From 23 July, when the run began
    with 1.4 million/9%, 13 episodes
of the show have averaged 1.7
    million/11% in overnights – better
    than BBC2’s weekday 7-8pm slot
average of 1.1 million/7% in the
    year to 22 July.
    The Thursday 8 August episode
    racked up 2.1 million/13% after
recording – BBC2’s best rating for
an hour-long show in that slot this
year. The Repair Shop seems to
have buffed up 7pm to a healthy,
    brassy shine. Could a dazzling
    8pm slot be beckoning?
