pigeons not
decoying, Tom
considers his
next move

Tom eyes up a
quartering bird
decoying in

surrounding farms being shot so hard
it doesn’t really make any diff erence,
not in the summer months anyway.
There was some early interest on
this small rape stubble. By the time
Matt had arrived there were around
100 or so mainly local pigeons that
had showed interest but nothing
really coming from distance. I wasn’t
feeling overly confi dent but if they
were to start coming from their
normal line, we could achieve 50.


The Enforcer

We set up and, to see what they were
like, I tried the Enforcer decoys,
though it was possibly a risky move
using plastics in a heavily shot area.
I’ve tried them a couple of times and
on ‘green’ pigeons they work well; but
heavily shot pigeons are the real test.
We were ready for battle and,
with a single magnet, took up our
positions. An early single one decoyed
and that was his lot. For an hour, birds
were coming back but one look at the
magnet at a distance and they were
having none of it. They weren’t only
fl aring but also taking evasive action.
