recentlymademea fantasticcrow
callfromAfricanblackwood,which
hasa realisticthroatycroak.By
blowingfromthebackofmythroat
andpronouncingthe“graw” ofa
crow,I canproducea convincing
call.Thisbrilliantpieceofkithas
helpedmetomakesomegreat
bagswiththeairrifleandshotgun.
Myusualapproachwithcrows
is tosetupa discreethidewithin
rangeoftheareatheyaretargeting
thenusedecoystolurethemback.
Theroleofthecallis simplytodraw
theattentionofpassingcrowsto
mydecoys,typicallybygivingit
threeorfourblasts.Oncecrows
haveclockedtheimitationbirds,
I ceasecallingbecausetoomuch
raspingrunstheriskofalerting
incoming corvids to my position.
