moor,is simplyamazing,”Peter

Hainingtoldme,inawe,asoneofthe

Labradorsranouttopickhisbird.

Aftermybath,I headedtothe

sheepshedtopluckoneofthebirds.

I alwaysthinkthatgrousearebest

simplyroastedwithsaltandpepper.

Takinga pictureofthebirdasit

cameouttheoven,I postedit on

socialmediawiththecaption“a

Gallowaygrousefordinnertoend

anotherGloriousTwelfth”.

Thefollowingday,I lookedat the

responses.Onefroma youngRSPB

volunteercaughtmyeye:“Struggling

tokeepcalmhere,”it read.“What’s

wrongwithchicken?”Whenyou

haveyoungpeoplewhopurportto

careaboutwildlifeangrilyclaiming

thatfarmedpoultryis ethically

superiortowildgame,it’sfairtosay

something’sgoneverywrong.
