delivers 110kW and 400Nm (the latter
peaking between 1 600 and 2 000r/min.
It sends the power to the rear wheels via
a six-speed automatic gearbox.
There is plenty of grunt available at
low engine speeds, ideal for tough and
tricky low-speed 4×4 driving.
A transfer case allows for the selection
(via a dash mounted dial) between the
default 2H, 4H (four-wheel-drive high
range) and 4Low (four-wheel-drive low
range). Together with the independent
double wishbone front suspension and
multi-link rear set-up, the drivetrain

that month alone.
Although most Fortuners will
probably never see a Grade 5 trail
in their lifetimes and spend the

In the Toyota’s 4×4 armoury
you’ll find a hill assist control (HAC)
system, traction control (TRC) and
a rear differential lock. There’s a
claimed 279mm of ground clearance,
a 29 degree approach angle and a
25 degree departure angle.
This is topped off with 265/65 R17
tyres which are better suited to 4×4
driving than lower-profile items.
All things considered, there’s
much more to the Toyota Fortuner
2.4GD-6 4×4 AT than just being a
populist seven-seat city slicker.
