ell, if you attended our CMM days in
June then thank you very muchindeed...
Our June dayfollowed on from the
scorchinghot ClassicSuzuki Trackday and Show on
theSaturday29th. To say it wa shot, hot, hot wasan
understatement! Stars such as JohnReynolds,Steve
Parrish andTerry Rymer hit the track onaraft of
very special Suzukis.
By th eSunday (thankfully) the temperatures were
lower andlots of fun washadbyall! Our winners
were happy toreceive theirtrophies, too.
Ourbest 1960sbike wasLes Dawes’Triton. The
motor was from1959 andthe framefrom 1961. It
was built around six years ago. Les, from Doncaster,
says:“I’ve always riddenBritbikes and lustedafter
aTriton, butthey’ve been soexpensive. Sowhen I
could afford one,Ibuilt one.”
Best in1970swent to the 1972 Seeley G50
Matchless 500 ownedbyPhilWoodall andridden
over the weekend by DavidTetley (ablysupportedby
John Tetley and Sophie Pugh.) Best1980s went to
Clive White’sHonda 250RSracer,which (in reality)
bracketed the late 1980stot he very early 1990s.
He said:“I’ve hadit for five years andIlove it !Ilove
the‘Cup Noodle’Takuma Aoki colour scheme overa
Rothmansscheme any day.”
Forbest 1990s in show, we plumped forahumble
but very tidy 1995Honda CBR600F-S,mildly
modded withScorpion can and Proflex shock. Andy
Hadley the ownersays: “I’ve hadits ix yearsand it
does everything.I’ve also given it sticky tyres,
air-vest!”
Moving into the 2000s, Steve Sawyer’s2003
trackRC51/VTR1000 was an eye-catcher. “I’ve had
it two-and-a-half years,” hesays. “Trick stuff
includesaWorld Superbikespec motor ,HRC and
Moriwaki parts allput onaroad-going SP2.Ihad an
RC45, but thisis nicer t oride. It’s the calmness of
the thingand the drive...”
Best special went to thegorgeous1981 Suzuki
Katana 1250 freshly built by David Campbell. “It
only got finished this winter,” he says.“She’slovely
to ride outthere on Cadwell’slovely curves, too!”
The best bikeins howwent to RobWeed’s Kawasaki
Z1000R.He says: “Yourown Steve Cooperhas
ridden this for the mag! Ittook around12 yearsto
build as yousee it today .Ialways wantedone and
have agarage full ofbitsand bobsandan
endurancemachine...”
