ABOUT
26 September 2019
Why should I be there? Historic motorsport
is big business these days, with a number of
flagship meetings around the world. The UK is
fortunate to host a number of top level events,
and one that we always clear the diary for is July’s
Silverstone Classic.
While the main attraction is, of course, the racing
and on-track demonstrations – this year’s event saw
everything from Minis to Le Mans cars in action –
we’re always hugely drawn to the infield where the
privately owned cars and clubs gather. It gives the
event a uniquely inclusive feel, and each year the
organisers move some of the pitches around so it
never gets stale.
Amid the Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Aston
Martins, you’ll find no shortage of self-build
representation, with a number of kit car clubs always
present. Here’s what we saw on our snoop around the
infield on the Friday of the event.
SILVERSTONE CLASSIC
Kit cars weren’t only to be found in the infield... this Turner was in the RAC Tourist Trophy.
Some TVR Tuscans from the single-make TVR
Challenge race series of the late 1980s and ’90s
have been road registered. We approve!
This Noble Mk4, a replica of the Ferrari P4, was
part of a big display of second-hand kit cars being
offered by Total Headturners.
Mini Marcos (background) and Marcos are arguably
classics in their own right... but they’re also kit cars.
Great to see both of them in action.
PistonHeads had a display of hero cars, and this
Ford GT40 replica was among its number. We
think it was the only kit car they selected.
Many kit car owners make an annual trip to the Silverstone Classic... and it
has become a regular outing for us too. Here’s what we saw this year.
