Modern Zetec engine runs throttle bodies.

Tiger instruments a nice touch. Full cage makes getting in more tricky!

Tiger Racing has always offered factory turnkey cars,
a route taken by Allan ‘Griff ’ Griffin when he ordered a
brand new Avon after having owned and run a Tiger
Super Six previously. Having it built for him didn’t
stop him setting every aspect of the specification,
from the engine, gearbox (long first gear), full roll cage, no windscreen
(but wiper motor and spindles in place should he want a screen), the
body colour and exact wheel choice. As events co-ordinator for EATOC,
club gatherings and runs are the regular ways in which he uses the car,
but the Avon is also a regular visitor to the continent, with two trips
to Switzerland, another to Belgium, and an Austrian run planned for
this year... in the three years since the Avon hit the road, it’s already
covered an impressive 20,000 miles. “It’s definitely a driving car,”
enthuses Griff.

TIGER AVON

Indpendent) – a high value offering for the
foreign market that no longer existed! A
small number of SSIs were sold to the UK
market, but it wasn’t the production run
that had been promised.
In a kneejerk reaction that would
ultimately bring in one of the company’s
most successful models, in 1996 Tiger
went back to basics and launched a

new affordable kit in the form of the
predictably distinctively styled Tiger
Cub. While the front end styling split
opinion (OK, not many people liked
it!), the underpinnings worked a treat. A
subsequent restyle, and alteration of the
front suspension and chassis, would usher
in the Tiger Cat in 1998. Along with its
wider derivative, the Cat XL which was
