IAN STENT
I realise I’m in danger of sounding
like a broken record. But...
it seems to me that the new
Ultima RS proves yet again that,
with the right e ort put into design,
t, nish and marketing, a uniquely
designed component car can
achieve sales success at a price
point to make it pro table.
I know that Ultima has invested
hugely in the new RS, spending
more than ever to develop and
manufacture its most advanced
model yet. By all accounts the
response, not just in Facebook ‘likes’
but genuine deposits, has been
overwhelming. Ultima’s challenge, it
would appear, is not to sell the car,
but cope with the demand!
I do realise that Ultima perhaps
operates within its own bubble in
our industry. It seems to engender a
unique appeal that very few, if any,
other manufacturers can match.
However cynical and negative you
want to be, this is exciting news,
isn’t it? Ultima’s success should act
as a catalyst for all budding kit car
manufacturers in waiting.
I’m not suggesting it’s easy. What
you need is a professional design
that looks drop dead gorgeous, is
meticulously manufactured and, of
course, delivers in spades when it
comes to the driving experience.
To get everything tee’d up
perfectly is certainly a challenge,
but I reckon the Ultima RS
demonstrates it is possible.
TIME TO BE

MEV UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP
We’re glad to see the Exocet

into one of the industry’s most
enduring and successful models of
recent years. For more information
on the popular Mk1 and Mk
MX-5 based established model as
well as the recent addition of the
Mk3 based range-topper, MEV’s

Following over fteen years in charge
of kit manufacturer MEV, founder
Stuart Mills has sold control of the
company to new owners Stewart and
Sylvia Mutch. But he has con rmed
that he will remain an integral part
of the marque going forward.
New co-owner Stewart will not be
an unfamiliar face to many Exocet
builders, having previously shared
stand space with MEV through

Following its successful launch at the Goodwood Festival of
Speed in July, the Ultima RS is already on track to become
the company’s most successful model to date, with orders
coming in fast from all over the globe.
The Ultima marque is already well established in the
United States as well as other international markets, and the
Leicester based company recently announced at FoS that
it is currently working to move more cars to Japan. In fact,
the Japanese arm’s RS demonstrator is due to be completed
later this month. For more information on the company’s
new de facto halo model, we have a four page report in the
August 2019 issue of Complete Kit Car.
The DeHavilland Motor Company
is opening its Su olk workshop
doors for its annual open day on
Sunday 25 August. The event will
involve kit car chat, hot drinks and |
cake, as well as a chance to look
around its updated model range.
