A plan with the flap
With reference to the Infanta Enkulu 2 caravan test in the August
issue, we took delivery of our Enkulu 2 in February and we had the
mud flaps mounted for our tour of Namibia and Botswana. I read
in the article that the mud flaps stand out slightly and that you can
bump into them. So I took our caravan to Jaap Botha in Velddrif and
he adjusted the flaps slightly. They are now slightly bent back.

The mud flaps are standard on the Enkulu 2, but Infanta’s Jurie
Swart says it depends on the customer whether they want them
mounted or not.If theydon’tneedthem,theEnkulu2 comes
without them. –Ed

Beware of fingers burning

Mic van Zyl’s “Wired for fire” column in the July issue reminds
me of years ago. We simply wrapped the foil from a cigarette
box around your car’s ceramic fuses when one of them fused
and you had to make a plan next to the road.
But it’s not always such a smart fix, as the whole affair
easily catches fire. The fuse is there to protect the rest of the
car’s wiring, after all.
You would experience similar problems at home if you
routed the wiring around the circuit breakers so the power
doesn’t trip.
Which brings me to the next issue: a battery that isn’t
properly clamped down. When such a battery – think of
the one in your caravan – should fall over in an accident or
because of a bad road, it can also cause a short circuit. With
the possibility of nearby fuel (in jerry cans), this could result in
even worse consequences.
