World knocks
on China’s
door
Motorhome-World, which has been exporting
its motorhome hulls to Australia since
2017, has now gained a foothold in the
Chinese market.
Caravan company Loncen has approached
Motorhome-World to import its Discoverer
Xtreme model to China, says Dennis Bouwers,
MD. As in the case of exports to Australia, it
only involves the hull of the Xtreme, which
then gets fitted on the chassis of an Iveco
Daily 4x4 over there. It is the same chassis
used locally but the engine differs slightly.
Locally, the engine complies with the Euro 3
exhaust standard, but the Euro 5 standard
applies in China.
Because the Chinese drive on the right-
hand side of the road, the Xtreme’s hull had to
be adjusted as well. The door that usually sits
on the left had to move to the right. And, for
example, where the built-in geyser sits on the
right in the hull, it had to move to the left. But
the interior layout otherwise remains similar,
says Dennis.
Dennis also says China still has a relatively
small motorhome and caravan market, but
Motorhome-World believes there is a lot
of potential.
