They’ve streamlined the line-up to only two models. It’s
showing its age in terms of finishing, but will last forever.

explains why every third or fourth vehicle you
see is a Fortuner.

The Pajero Sport brings irrefutable off-road credentials and
polarising design to the table. Appeals to some.

COMPETITORS
Bakkie-based 4x4 SUVs

range by pressing the ‘-’ button on the
gearshift lever. The transmission will only shift
between the gear range that you’ve selected.

The suspension
The reworked front suspension adds
a third leg to the improved refinement
of the new Everest. The anti-roll bar has
been repositioned behind the axle, giving
the engineers more space to increase its
diameter and stiffness.
The load on the suspension bushes have
also been reduced, and the various model
derivatives now have individual front damper
settings. All these suspension tweaks have
enabled tyre pressures to go down – from 240
to 210 kPa. The ride is more compliant and
comfortable, and you’ll notice the difference
on corrugated roads. We certainly did.

Conclusion
The Limited model, a proper seven-seater
with luxury specs, is dear at R760 000, even
though Ford says it’s classy enough to
compete with the much more expensive
Land Rover Discovery and Toyota Land
Cruiser Prado. That might be aiming at a peak
too high. The XLT 4x4 at R690 000 has the
same engine, suspension and transmission
as the Limited. If you want to attempt Mount
Fortuner, this is the one to get.
