a Safari snorkel, nudge bar, DVD screens
to keep the rear passengers entertained
and a conversion by Van Der Linde
Developments that has noticeably increased
the engine’s outputs (from 195 kW and 650
Nm to 250 kW and 930 Nm). After the mods,
and with the slick automatic transmission, the
200 tows our Destination Journey caravan
effortlessly, and makes it a pleasure to be
behind the wheel.
With this sort of grunt available under
your right foot, you can expect a penalty
at the pumps, because the 200 drinks
around 17,5 ℓ/100 km of diesel without the
Destination on the hitch. That figure goes up
to around 21,2 ℓ/100 km while towing.
So far, our favourite getaway with this
combination is the Rocky Bay Resort
between Pennington and Park Rynie on
the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast. The resort
is right next to the shoreline and even if you

are pitched on a stand in the back row, it’s still
very close to the beach. I have three children
and the beach is safe enough for them to
play on all day while my better half and I kill
time behind our fishing rods. Just 100 metres
from the resort is the ski boat club and we go
deep sea fishing every year on the good ship

Wotalotigot. We always see whales breaching,
birds diving and dolphins, not to mention
the sardines during June/July. The service
from resort manager Dino and ladies at
reception Estelle, Selina and Annien is always
outstanding, and in the past two years
we’ve camped there five times.
