that’s 2 km along the ravine to the two
waterfalls and a lookout point where two
klipspringers pass right by us. Our time at
Augrabies is over far too soon.
FROM HERE, WE drive through Pofadder to
Klein-Pella’s campsite on Karsten’s date-
palm farm. We camp for two nights on
the grass with our own ablution facilities.
Campers are allowed to explore the farm,
and we drive past date-palm trees and
vineyards right to the Orange River.
At reception we buy giant dates and
delicious raisins and then leave for
Springbok where we camp for two nights
in the Springbok Caravan Park. A strong
wind blows, and we get some rain during
the night. Our next and last campsite is in
the Vanrhynsdorp Caravan Park where we
also spend two nights. Here the ablution
facilities are old but clean, and we have an
equally enjoyable stay. We visit the tourist
bureau and museum as well as the old
prison cells in town.
And so our holiday comes to an end.
We buy some more skuinskoek and then
take the N7 home, through the beautiful
Piekenierskloof Pass.
We drove 2 624 km and consumed just
a little more than 318 ℓ diesel at a cost
of R5 044. Our stay for the 17 nights and
our groceries cost R6 255, which means
the cost for our entire holiday amounted
to R11 299. And it was worth every
single cent!
