S
maller caravans are becoming increasingly popular
- mainly because you don’t need a veritable
locomotive to tow them. It’s mostly couples who buy
them, so if you’re in the market for a new caravan and
want to start small, or perhaps you want to scale down from
your double-axle caravan, check out the Tonga.
It is important for caravan manufacturers to stay current - think of the familiar USB socket that was a novelty a year
or so ago but is now standard in many caravans. The makers
of the Tonga, Etienne van Zyl and his son Jean-Pierre, came
up with a host of innovations. The “canopy”, for example, can
be removed so you can use it as a trailer; the kitchen cabinet
with its double doors slides out of the nose over the A-frame;
and you can suspend a tent room beneath the rear hatch.
