(Jacob Rumans) #1

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT
Commonly found as a single flower,
the original Hibiscus rosa-sinensis
was a double, like this one;
the petals of H. schizopetalus are
characteristically frilly and finely
divided; H. ‘White Dainty’ is one
of many cultivars with pure
white petals; H. Rio Clara ‘Yellow
Sunburst’ is a popular patio
hibiscus; the delicate H. ‘El Capitolio
Salmon’; a beautiful hybrid growing
roadside in Brisbane; H. ‘Sabrina’
makes an attractive screening plant;
the dark green foliage of H. Rio Clara
‘Orange Sunburst’ sets off its bright,
extra-large flowers perfectly.

H. ‘Archeri’ (‘Psyche’) is a widely
grown cultivar, and it does
particularly well in the tropics.
