Place an urn on a plinth to create a focal
point above a pathway
easier to maintain through the addition
of gravel, in which plants suited to
drier conditions have been placed.
“I’m not mad on gravel, but I’m
pleased with the feature it’s created,”
says Daphne. “Previously, this area
had become overrun with plants and
was struggling a bit.”
Challenging but worth it
All in all, the garden is a great source of
pleasure for the Beaumonts.“The garden
means everything to us. I really couldn’t
live without a garden,” says Daphne.
“As time’s gone on we’ve tried to
cut down on the workload as much as
possible. One of our favourite pastimes
these days is to sit under the crab apple
tree in the afternoon and wait for the
robin to come for his crumbs.”
Put down gravel in tricky areas for
an easy-to-maintain surface that
keeps moisture in the soil to aid
