NRA TRAINING

PROGRAMS

REACH MILLIONS

OF SHOOTERS

AND NEW GUN

OWNERS. AS

A RESULT, OUR

COMMUNITIES

AND SCHOOLS

ARE SAFER.

N

RA is fully engaged every day
protecting and fighting for our
freedom. As we fight those battles,
thanks to your support, it is easy to lose sight
of all the NRA is also doing for gun safety
(actual gun safety, not how anti-gunners
use the term). We help police departments,
provide and support firearm training, stop
schools from being soft targets and do so
many other things the mainstream media will
never tell the public, as it just doesn’t fit their
anti-Second Amendment narrative.
Here are just a few things the NRA does.
TRAINING: With roughly 1 million
Americans attending our training courses
annually, the NRA is the Gold Standard for
firearm safety. Whether you’re a new or
prospective gun owner or hunter in search
of training, whatever your age or level of
expertise, whatever type of firearm you’re
interested in, the NRA has the course for you.
Equally important, we conduct courses for
those motivated to serve their communities
as certified instructors, counselors, coaches
and range safety officers, thereby ensuring
convenient access to training nationwide.

LAW ENFORCEMENT: The NRA
established a Law Enforcement Division
in 1960 specifically to provide a means
for certifying law-enforcement firearm
instructors. We also offer law-enforcement
firearm competitions, since competition is
a direct extension of training. Competitions
consist of the National Police Shooting
Championships as well as a new multi-gun
law enforcement competition called the
Tactical Police Competition. le.nra.org
NRA SCHOOL SHIELD: When people
cried, "Someone do something!"—NRA
did. The NRA School Shield program works
to secure our schools and help keep our
children safe. School security is a complex
issue with no simple, single solution. School
Shield is committed to addressing the many
facets of school security, including best
practices in security infrastructure, technology,
personnel, training and policy. Through
this multidimensional effort, NRA School
Shield seeks to engage communities and
empower leaders to help make our schools
more secure. nraschoolshield.org
HUNTER SUPPORT: Working in
cooperation with the state of New York in
1949, we developed hunter-safety training as
it’s been known for generations. Since then,
our proven principles have been adopted
throughout North America, and our new

free-of-charge, state-of-the-art online hunter
education course has just been approved by
the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for federal
matching funds to states that adopt it. What’s
more, NRA’s Youth Hunter Education Challenge
provides a fun environment for youngsters
to improve their field marksmanship and
safety skills. The NRA Hunter Clinic Instructor
Program and Women’s Wilderness Escape
are just two more examples of what we do.

COMPETITIVE SHOOTING: NRA’s
Competitive Shooting Division offers a wide
range of activities in myriad shooting disciplines
for everyone from novices to world-class
competitors. The NRA sanctions more than
11,000 shooting tournaments and sponsors
50-plus national championships each year. Our
Shooting Sports USA online media cover all
types of target sports with articles on winning
competitors, technique and equipment.

SAFETY AND EDUCATION: The NRA
offers resources and training to ensure the
safe and effective use of firearms as well as
personal safety. Award-winning courses like
Refuse To Be A Victim are available to teach
proactive strategies on avoiding dangerous
situations, self-defense using a firearm, as well
as protection inside and outside the home.

WOMEN’S INTERESTS: With the number
of women shooters on the rise, the NRA
is dedicated to providing programs and
resources to female firearm enthusiasts.
Women have the opportunity to receive safety
and skills training from certified instructors, get
involved in clubs and competitions, and receive
scholarships. The NRA Women’s Network is
a growing resource for news, education and
events, and is telling stories of empowered
women. explore.nra.org/interests/

AFFILIATED CLUBS, RANGES AND
BUSINESSES: The NRA is committed to
providing assistance to our affiliated clubs
and ranges across the country. NRA Clubs &
Associations provides services and materials
to a network of 15,000 NRA-affiliated
organizations and businesses. NRA Range
Services shares expertise with public and
private ranges across the country, including
on-site consultation, educational seminars and
grants. explore.nra.org/programs/clubs
