Leopold German
Field Cannon
I
have always been fascinated
with the huge railway cannons
and the breadth of the German
Nazi technology. Their ideas to
build bigger and bigger cannons such as the
‘Dora’ or the ‘Leopold’, and their planned
mammoth project the Ratte’ and
such were amazing. But what might
have happened if the War had
not ended 1945, and the German
Reich continued their weapons
development? What kind of projects
would have taken shape? Maybe they
would have also improved and modiied
some their existing equipment to make it
bigger or even better? This was the basic
idea I had when I have planned this project
- why not modify the Leopold cannon to be
used in the ield as well? I have no idea if the
suspension used on the E-75 tanks would
bear the weight of the huge cannon when
iring, even with some additional plate-like
supports mounted at the centre of the rig. I
do not know if all this would work, but let’s
assume that the Germans made it work
and start this project.
Trumpeter’s fantastic E-75 tanks were
used for the two base vehicles – and the
centre of the upper hulls were cut out
and replaced by plastic sheet, and any
gaps illed and sanded down. The engine
grilles at the back were are replaced
with etched parts of Aber,
and further metal parts of
Voyager were used all
around the vehicles.
