Scale Military Modeller International – September 2019

(Romina) #1
including the crew hatches and rear
tool stowage.
Now things move onto the turret
assembly which begins with the
very nice main gun breech and
then the two turret halves complete
with interior detail, crew seats,
further ammo racks and some
nicely moulded 17 Pounder rounds.
With all that in place the turret is
completed with the addition of the
small armoured cover at the top, the
mantlet, main gun, the rear counter
weights and some more exterior
detailing. At this stage the main
build is already complete, and it is
time to turn our attention to the
crew. Here Tamiya have continued to
improve the craft of the plastic igure
with some very good-looking parts
which feature great detail on the
uniforms and some clever moulding
on the creases which hide most of

the joins very well.
A entire page of
the instructions
is dedicated to
completing and
itting the igures
in place, and they
really look the part
when inished, although I
decided to omit the driver. At
this stage the igures were test itted
and then inished with Tamiya and
Vallejo acrylics.

Painting and Detailing
Next, was some further detailing
and itting of the stowage which
comprised some lovely resin
camoulage nets and hanging bags
from Red Zebra and a mixture of
Tamiya parts from the kit and the
spares box. The kit .50 Cal was
replaced with a very nice resin part,

again from Red
Zebra. The tracks
were now primed
and given a coat of
Matt Black followed
by Red Brown. The
rubber track pads
were picked out with a
dark grey and then given
a suitable track wash and
then left to dry. The complete model
now was primed with MIG-2005 Black
Primer and then given a base coat
of MIG-110 British Brown. Over this I
applied a thin coat of MIG-112 British
Olive Drab which was then lightened
with MIG-061 Warm Sand Yellow and
applied to the panel centres and used
as a highlight. With the minimal decals
itted I decided on just basic washes
and dry brushing to bring out all the
detail, no heavy chipping or wear for
me on this build as I depicted a vehicle
