Endless possibilities
Reaching a possible height of 80cm,
Salvia ‘Salmia’ can turn any garden bed
into a stunning display of colour. For the
greatest impact they are best grown in
large quantities, either with one continuous
colour for more structure or multiple
colours for a wilder look. The tall flower

spikes and bushy appearance pair well with
containers too, if there is sufficient space
and good drainage. As these plants are not
particularly demanding, they work well in
drought gardens and grow extremely well
along the coastline. Salvias also don’t have
many problems with pests or diseases,
and are generally a great choice for those
gardeners with little time on their hands.

For those considering what to plant this
spring, Salvia ‘Salmia’ should be your first
answer. While requiring little upkeep, they
manage to instantly uplift any garden with
intense colour and give some critical love to
the butterflies and bees too. Reaping such
great rewards from so little effort seems too
good to be true, but this is one perennial
that does all the work for you.
