Guns & Ammo – October 2019

come up and ask if a particular handgun was a good choice for
personal defense. “It depends,” I’d say. These days, I usually reply
with another question: “Have you looked at a SIG Sauer P365?”
The P365 XL is no better or worse of a pistol than the standard
model. Whether it’s right for you will largely depend on handsize
and your ability to conceal the grip without printing. I’m sure of
one thing: One of them is probably going to suit you well.

Adding only half an ounce to the
weight of any pistol slide cut for
it, SIG Sauer’s new RomeoZero
miniature red dot is ideal for use
on slim-profile, compact hand-
guns. This is a sight that’s smaller
than other popular red dots, but
it shares the same footprint as the
Shield RMSc.
Available with either 3 or 6
MOA dot sizes, the RomeoZero
is powered by a single CR1632
battery. Battery life is estimated
at 10,000 hours on the brightest
of eight intensity settings and
20,000 hours on the dimmest.
To further preserve battery life,
SIG Sauer’s motion activated

illumination system, MOTAC, is
tech included within. After 20
minutes of idle, the sight turns
off. Once it senses any movement
or vibration, the red dot turns
on faster than you can bring the
sight to your eye.

To adjust the dot’s intensity
level, there is a small button
just behind the polymer lens.
Push the button to descend and
ascend through the intensity
settings. When the minimum and
maximum intensities are reached,
the dot flashes before changing
directions of brightness.
Zeroing the miniature red dot is
quick and supported by SIG Sau-
er’s Truhold system of twin adjust-
ment springs. This technology has
been torture tested and proven to
endure a handgun’s harsh recoil
and return to zero after every shot.
The lens is further protected by
SIG Sauer’s SpectraCoat HD tech-

nology that transmits light with
minimum distortion of the visible
spectrum.
Though made to be lightweight,
the RomeoZero stands up to use
as a slide racker. This attribute is
enhanced with the same texturing
that appears on the P365 and
P365 XL grip.
Should the dot not activate,
the user has the ability to use
the pistol’s conventional sights
by aligning the front with the
RomeoZero’s integrated fixed rear
notch. For its .94-inch-wide by
.95-inch tall size, this micro pack-
age houses a lot of features. Best
of all, it’s made in America. $250
