SOMETIMES OLDIES ARE goodies,
and that’s deÀnitely the case
with the veteran InterContinental
Abu Dhabi hotel. Once of the Àrst
international chains to come to
the capital, the hotel has stood
proud in Al Bateen for decades,
and shows no signs of slowing
down yet.
It houses some fantastic bars
and restaurants, from the fun
Italian Circo and impressive
Fishmarket to the all-you-can-eat
Brazilian steakhouse Chamas
and Time Out award-winning Cho
Gao Marina Walk. But, the one
place we return to time and time
again is Belgian Café.
Walking into the bar is like
coming home to an old friend. It’s
familiar, comforting and reliable.
It may not be the most Áashy
place in the capital, but it doesn’t
need to be. It makes up for a lack
of pizazz by offering good service,
a warm atmosphere and Belgian
hops by the bucket- (or very large
glass-) load.
There are plenty of versions
of Belgian Café across the UAE,
some with more merit than
others, but throughout them all
you can expect a range of Belgian
hops on draught (and more
specialist offerings by the bottle),
wooden décor and a menu Àlled
with dishes such as moules-frites.
Inside, this branch has a more
lived-in feel than some of the
others, staff seem to recall you
from previous visits and the food
menu is more expansive. There’s
also a huge outdoor area with its
own bar, which really comes into
its own in the cooler months.
Deals are abound every night,
with happy hours running until
6pm on weekdays and 7pm on
weekends, when you’ll get 50
percent off a range of drinks.
There are other deals throughout
the week, with mussels available
for Dhs99 on Mondays, unlimited
mussels for Dhs165 on Tuesdays,
unlimited ribs for Dhs145 on
Saturdays and steak for Dhs99

WHY GO...
If you need a
dependable venue,
this is your place
BAR OF THE WEEK
on Sundays. There’s regular live
music and you’ll Ànd sport on
screens througout the venue, too.
There are always people in
there, in stark contrast to some of
the more glitzy, but empty, venues
elsewhere in the capital. We
really can’t recommend coming
here enough.
