WANT TO KNOW what’s going on

in Major League Soccer? How

about UFC? Basketball more your

thing? No problem, come one,

come all. Sports Café has you

covered on one of its dozen or so

screens, either above the bar or

hanging on the wall.

If you haven’t got it already,

this place is one of the best

choices on this side of town for

watching a game or two. It’s also

a pretty good shout for food (we

recommend the wings, pizzas

and burgers) and certainly for

those who like to sink a few pints.

The happy hour (which starts

at opening every day) offers

two-for-one on a whole host of

draught hops options, and this

place has a seriously good range

of the stuff available. There are

also plenty of grape, shorts and

mixed drinks options.

As well as the daily happy hour

there’s a late ladies’ night every

Monday (following on from others

in the same hotel) regular

live music and karaoke

on a Friday night. You can

expect deals aplenty when

there are big sporting

occasions, too.

It’s a bright venue,

with big windows letting

plenty of sunlight in before

nightfall, but it gets a bit

more moody as the hours pass.

While sports bars probably aren’t

high on many people’s date-night

venues there are couples dotted

around the place as well as solo

gents and bigger groups.

Staff are on the ball (pardon

the pun) and the place has a nice

atmosphere. On our latest visit

we’re served swiftly and the deals

are explained to us so we know

what to go for. After a few drinks

each, the bill is surprisingly low

(thanks to that happy hour) and

we leave having had a thoroughly

enjoyable couple of hours, vowing

to return soon.
