Budget smartphones Product Test
So which phone shouldyou buy?That
depends how muchyou’ve gotto spend.
Anyone with a budget of more than £150
would dowell to push the boat out and get
the Realme 3 Pro. This aggressive Europe-
wide launch is clearly designedto carvea
namefor the company with a spectacular
phoneat a very reasonable price.
Don’t despair ifyou can’t afford such
luxury, however. As long asyou don’t mind
usingVodafone’s pay-as-you-go network,
you can pick up the Smart V10for a very
reasonable £105. It may not offer quite
enough power to play the same games as
phones thatcost hundreds of pounds more,
but it performs amazinglywell for the price.
Realme
3 Pro
paired with a choice of either
4GB or 6GB of memory.
As you’dexpect, the V10
was the slower of the two in
our benchmarktests, scoring
867 in Geekbench 4’s
single-processortest and
2,510 in the multi-coretest.
The Readme, on the other
hand, scored 1,441 in the
single-coretest anda
whopping 5,824 in the
multi-coretest. That’s very
fast for a phoneat this price.
Graphics performancewas
similarly divided. In the
GFXbench GL Manhattan 3
test, the V10 produced 9
frames per second (fps)
onscreen and 5fps offscreen.
The Realme 3 Pro managed
29fps onscreen and 33fps
offscreen.This means the V10
is finefor simple 2D games
withstandard graphics, while
theRealme 3 Pro shouldcope
with all but thevery latest
and most demanding titles.
Battery life andcamera
The Realme 3 Pro hasa
powerful 4,045mAh battery
so you’dexpect itto lasta
long time. Infact, it lasted 15
hours and 34 minutes in our
battery run-downtest. The
performance capabilities of
the processor and screen
clearly take theirtoll, because
that’s only a little longer than
theVodafone model (15 hours
and 12 minutes) despite the

The V10 chargesover a
micro-USBconnection instead
of theRealme’s USBType-C
port.This limits how quickly
the V10 canrecharge, while
theRealme 3 Pro can go
from no chargeto 100% in
less than 90 minutes.
The camera is oftena
neglected part of budget
smartphones, but that’s not
the case here. Each phone has
tworear cameras.The V10
has a 13-megapixel model
coupled with a 5-megapixel
depth-sensing lensfor better
portraits, while theRealme 3
Pro has a 16-megapixel
camera with a 5-megapixel
depth sensor.
Both cameras take good
picturesfor theirrespective
prices.The difference between
themwas morestark when
comparing the video cameras
- the 3 Pro can handle 4K
resolutionat 30fps, or 1080p
at 60fps, whereas the V10tops
outat 30fps and 1080p.
