When you think about the hot weather
we’ve been enjoying recently, it’s hard
to believe that Christmas is only four
months away!
But now is the time to start planning
for that magical period of the year – and
if you are looking for an extra-special
gift, the Club’s Christmas Markets
tour is the ideal starting point.
G u e s t s o n t h i s fo u r- n i g ht
e s c o r te d to u r w i l l a c t u a l l y h a ve t h e
chance to visit three spectacular
markets (one in the Netherlands and
two in Germany).
The starting point and base for your
four-night escorted tour is Camping
Den Driesch, a small, friendly site on
the outskirts of the town of Valkenburg

in the south of the Netherlands. The
site enjoys a fine hilltop location looking
out over the historic town and its castle
ruins. On arrival, participants will enjoy
a welcome meeting as well as mulled
wine and a traditional Dutch snack.
On the second day, you will head
over the border by coach to Cologne in
Germany (pictured), where you can
search for festive bargains and soak up
t h e u n i q u e a t m o s p h e re a t n u m e ro u s
markets across the city.
Your third day is spent closer
to b a s e a t Va l ke n b u r g ’s f a m o u s m a r ket ,
hosted within its atmospheric cave
system. Claiming to be the largest,
oldest and most-visited underground
Christmas market in Europe, the
‘Kerststad’ (Christmas town) boasts
long, spacious, decorated galleries.
Finally, Aachen Christmas Market
beckons. Centred around the
magnificent cathedral and town

hall, this brightly-lit festival is the
perfect place to pick up a traditional gift.
Make sure you taste some ‘printen’
(similar to gingerbread) as well as other
traditional treats such as ‘domino
stones’ and ‘spekulatius’. To conclude
this memorable tour, guests are invited

to enjoy a farewell meal at a local
restaurant before their trip home the
following morning.
We are taking bookings for this
fantastic tour now – all excursions
and meals on the itinerary are included
in the price.

KLEINENZHOF, GERMANY (G23)
If you are feeling more adventurous or would rather go it alone, the
Kleinenzhof site in the north of Germany’s Black Forest is perfectly placed for
visiting a variety of magical Christmas markets. Calw, about half an hour’s
drive away from the campsite, holds a spectacular event at its historic Market
Place from 28 November to 1 December – look out for gingerbread stands,
arts and crafts, trumpeters and singing angels. A little further afield but still
within easy reach is Stuttgart, where, from 27 November to 23 December,
you can immerse yourself in the spirit of the season at one of the biggest and
oldest Christmas markets in Europe.

EIFEL-CAMP, GERMANY (G21)
This lovely site, next to picturesque Lake Freilingen, is within an hour’s drive of
historic Cologne and its Christmas market (25 November to 23 December).
