W

hen your father is a
legend in the scene, a
member of one of the
most distinguished
car clubs in the world, and the owner of
the famous “Moonflower,” there’s going
to be a lot of pressure to follow in his
footsteps. But for Gilbert Ramirez, his
father became the professor who would
expose him to the world of lowriding and
let him choose his own path.
By now you should have already
figured out that Gilbert’s father is none
other than Big Fern, aka Big Money
Fern. As a toddler he would take Gilbert
to his first shows, but once Gilbert hit
his teenage years, his love for lowriding
became something he needed to put his
hands on. He chose a ’62 Impala as his
first platform—a car that he literally put
together piece by piece after picking up a
rolling chassis for just $1,500.
In total, the build took five years to
complete and the roster of people who
helped create this car includes some of
the industry’s finest. In addition, this
car not only represents the creative
artistry found in lowriding, but a car
that represents the next generation of
lowrider advocates. We can’t wait to see
what he builds next.
