PUMPED

Words and photos: Simon McLaine

Through gaps in the forest, we are greeted with
views down to the lakes below. We make the final
push over freshly renovated trail, and through
the hot dry air. Lead through the endless metres
of beautiful singletrack surrounded by low-lying
ferns, we gradually descend down to the calm
waters of the Kawkawa Lake.
Retiring our bikes for just a little while, we
explore the water’s edge. Stumbling through
patches of wild berries and countless overgrown
paths, we climb through fallen trees to find the
perfect swimming spot. Now enjoying the rays of
the hot Canadian sun, we cool off in the shallow
waters by the lake’s entrance. Listening to the
sounds of the warm blue water splashing against
the rocks, we are humbled by our time riding such
a quiet and concealed trail.
