PUMPED

Words and photos: Simon McLaine

Finding hidden gems throughout British Columbia
are as much about the pedal up as the ride down.
Climbing through the foothills surrounding the
Coquihalla Mountains we stumble upon lush,
contrast filled woodlands. Sounds of birdlife and
nearby rivers complement the tall old-growth
cedars blowing in the wind. Colourful flora mirrors
the riding we experience.
As we ascend over brown, moisture rich soil, we
question the concealed trails we are lucky to be
riding. For now, it seems as though no local has hit
these trails all summer. We begin to descend down
the perfectly carved single trail, blasting through
tall green ferns and slapping piles of duff with our
rear wheels.
