PARLUX

ALYON,

£129.95
➤ WHAT THEY SAY Ask
a room full of hairdressers
about their favourite dryer and
I’d bet Parlux come first. This
Italian brand has been a pro favourite for
years and the latest model is a perfect
combination of form and function. It’s
stylish, very light ( just 34g heavier than
the GHD Flight) but boasts a muscular
2,250 watts of power. The heat and
speed options are adjusted with a handy
flick switch on the side of the handle.
It’s ionic, helping prevent frizz and the
K-Advance Plus motor promises a 3,000-
hour lifespan and powerful airflow.
➤ WHAT WE SAY You’ll notice the
power right away, making it a dream to
dry thick hair – no achy arms. It comes
with two smoothing nozzles and there
is also a ‘hair-free system’; essentially a
little corkscrew within the back vent that
stops hair getting trapped in the dryer.
While I wasn’t convinced this feature was
worth such fanfare, there’s little to knock
about the Parlux Alyon. It would be sure
to earn its keep over years of use.

REMINGTON THERMACARE PRO 2400,
£44.99
➤ WHAT THEY SAY The Thermacare’s specs match up to pricier counterparts
in many ways; it’s got ionic technology and a ceramic grille for evenly spread
heat, and it boasts double the lifespan of the brand’s previous models.
➤ WHAT WE SAY After testing many hair dryers costing north of £100, it’s
tricky to approach a sub £50 model without making assumptions about it’s
comparative performance, but this blew those misconceptions away (ahem).
As well as two heat and two speed controls there’s a booster button that
ramps up airflow, rough drying roots in double-time. It comes with two styling
nozzles and one diffuser and gave me a solid everyday blow-dry in as much
time as I would expect from a dryer twice the price.

T3 CURA LUXE,
£235
➤ WHAT THEY SAY T3 has a
reputation for innovation and
the Cura Luxe makes a good
impression. All the mod cons
you’d expect are present: ionic
technology, various nozzles, a quiet
motor and a volume boost button.
➤ WHAT WE SAY The most exciting
feature is the auto pause – take your
finger off the handle, put the dryer down
and airflow pauses, resuming only when
you pick it back up again. You can
imagine how useful this was when
attempting a bouncy blow-dry using
various round brushes. No wonder
this was one of the dryers I continued
using long after testing was over.
