DRAG CHATTER

HAVE CUBES, WILL BOOST
ONE camp argues that there’s no
substitute for cubic inches, while the
other reckons that turbochargers make
a pretty handy cubic-inch substitute.
But, as the little Mexican sheila in the
taco ad so wisely pondered, why don’t
we have both? The answer is that we
can, and we should. Just ask Daniel
Szabolics, whose monster twin-turbo
big-block HQ Monaro just stomped out
an eye-watering 2513hp at the hubs,
with Dandy Engines frontman and
reigning Drag Challenge champ Frank
Marchese on keyboards. Will we see
our first-ever six-second pass at DC this
year? We sure as hell hope so!

BIG-BLOCK MOPAR
THE West Aussie contingent looks
set to grow for Drag Challenge 2019,
with Aaron James planning to drag his
big-block VG Valiant across the desert
to break his DC virginity in the Radial
Aspirated class. We saw the car PB with
a 10.15@133mph at Red CentreNATS
last year, powered by a 547ci big-block
Chrysler and 727 combo. Welcome
aboard, Aaron!

TUFF MOUNTS SIGMA
THE absolute gentlemen at Tuff Mounts
have been DC sponsors for the past four
years, and they like to join in the fun as
entrants, too. Tuff Mounts boss Jason
Waye is busily swapping an LS into an
impossibly neat Mitsubishi Sigma for the
2019 event. He’s also offering healthy
discounts to DC entrants to help get
you guys and girls to the startline. Take
advantage of the same and get in touch
via musclegarage.com.au!
