A PEEK INSIDE OUR PROCESS

The most amazing thing happened
while we were deciding on this year’s
beauty-award recipients. We invited
100 moms to our headquarters to try out
makeup; many had to shift work hours or
find babysitters, and everyone surely
had a long list of things that needed to
get done at home. The moms arrived tired
and frazzled, but once they took a seat
at tables strewn with lipsticks and piled
high with foundations, they realized:
This night was about them. The stress and
chaos of mom life could wait because
they had a bunch of makeup to try and
two free hands. When was the last time
that happened?! After the moms finished
their looks and gave us their feedback
on the makeup, we had celebrity
photographer Ari Michelson take these
stunning photos. It’s obvious that the
moms look beautiful, but I hope you can
also see how incredible they felt. When
you’ve got little kids at your heels, it’s
rare to have a moment that’s all about
you. Makeup, hair, and skin-care
products can help you find one every
day —even if it’s just you, your bathroom
mirror, and a new eyeshadow palette.

SUNSCREEN
Mineral-based CeraVe
Hydrating Broad Spectrum
SPF 30 Sunscreen
($18; drugstores) goes on
like a luxe lotion, “absorbs
immediately,” and is
“low on that SPF smell.”

BODY LOTION

Testers described
Cetaphil Restoring Lotion
($20; drugstores) as a
Goldilocks cream—“not too
light,” “not too rich,”
and “no noticeable odor.”
In other words, just right.

BODY WASH

Let the “light, crisp scent”
of Mrs. Meyer’s Rain
Water Body Wash
($8; drugstores) fill your
shower for a ten- or, er,
two-minute escape from the
kids. Plus, aloe-vera gel and
flaxseed oil leave a
“refreshing, clean feeling.”

DEODORANT

Moms loved the seeming
contradictions in Secret
Aluminum Free Deodorant
($5; drugstores): It
“looked like a gel but went
on like a powder,” it
“smelled great but wasn’t
overwhelming,” and
it had “no aluminum but
was just as hardworking
as antiperspirant.”

BODY SCRUB

Biodegradable jojoba wax
and cellulose beads made
the Eau Thermale Avène
Gentle Scrub Body ($20;
aveneusa.com) a fan fave.
Testers raved about the
“nice, delicate scent” and
said they left the shower
with “soft, even skin.”
