year, with Apple adding a couple of nice-to-have
features to the device, rather than overhauling its
design and marketing the iPhone as “all-new”.

Quite unusually, there have been more rumors
and reports for Apple’s 2020 iPhones than for
the 2019 models, suggesting a change of tack
for the Cupertino firm that previously pushed
to innovate and overhaul every year. Apple
is saving a bunch of its blockbuster changes,
such as an all-new design, 120Hz ProMotion
displays, the implementation of 5G modems,
a new Touch ID-style mechanism that would
work across the entireity of the screen and a
notchless design for 2020, and consumers
may decide to hold off if they want the latest,
greatest iPhone in their pockets.

Whether Tim Cook and Team Apple have a few
tricks up their sleeve remains to be seen, but
with major product and service releases also
expected this September - like a new Apple
Watch, new iPads, the launch of the Mac Pro
and a new 16-inch MacBook Pro, as well as the
Apple Card, Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade - the
company will need to work hard if it plans to
convince users to hand over more than $1,000
for a “stopgap” smartphone release.

Next year’s iPhones will undoubtedly be the
next big thing in the industry, pushing the brand
into its next generation with 5G and a whole
host of innovations. But now that the cat is out
of the bag on the majority of 2020’s upgrades,
anything released prior will be met with only
mild enthusiasm. Still, we say bring on the 2019
iPhones; any upgrades to the world’s most
powerful smartphone range can only be a good
thing, and we can’t wait to take one home!
